Description

WILLIAM S. HART (1864-1946): 3X5" vintage index card hand-signed by one of the first western movie stars in Hollywood.  Bill Hart was a Shakesperean actor, including on Broadway when, at age 49, he decided he wanted to tell the true story of the Old West in silent movies.  And he did, becoming the accredited box office champion in 1915 and 1916. This is signed in pencil, uncommonly as "Bill", instead of "William S."  There is a scrape mark across the "Ha" in Hart, but the signature is very legible. For me the story of Bill Hart is that he grew up in a small village in Minnesota -- population around 200.  It's the same village I grew up in many years later.  The school he attended still stands on the bank of the Zumbro River.  On the second floor of this school is the stage where Bill Hart first found his love of theater.  As a kicker to this story -- Bill Hart, from my tiny home town, was a pallbearer for Wyatt Earp.  He, Earp, Tom Mix and other notables from the west were all friends in Los Angeles in the 1920s.  Can you imagine THOSE conversations? Also incidentally, Hart owned property in our mutual home town until his death.
The card is in very good to excellent condition with a small photo of Hart affixed.. SHIPPING: First class postage-insurance in the USA is . My background in autographs started as a reporter in both newspapers and radio/TV -- covering Hollywood, sports, and national politics at various times. The autographs I sell came from my contacts as a reporter, and were gotten in person by me -- or come today from qualified sources.
